Off to Firenze!
Started off early on Monday morning with a Toronto road trip with Frana and Sanja. We booked our flight through Student Universe and got a pretty good deal on prices. Once we arrived at the Florence airport we met up with Brian and got a taxi. We were all in shock and amazed at the new place we would be calling home for the next two months. We immediately saw how hospitable Italians were when we were greeted with open arms and given money for a cab to our new home. Though I studied Italian for a semester to prepare, I was surprised by how little I was able to speak and understand at first. Though it has improved, it is a bit overwhelming. The locals really enjoy teaching and assisting you in Italian. Our apartment is incredible in size and in location. All eight of us are together in the same building. Finding my way around has been a little difficult, as the layout is not a grid like cities in America are. However, I am now starting to find my way and recognize my surroundings. Brian and I were able to visit Eataly (our internship site) this week, in order to work out our schedule and to learn more of what we will be doing. We will be personal shopping and bettering customer service and experience. It is a little nerve racking because of the language barrier and all of the learning that will have to be done before working hands on. However, we are excited because this weekend is Eatalys beer festival, which should be a unique experience. This city is incredibly beautiful and friendly and I cannot wait to experience even more!
