This week I took it upon myself to do some exploring alone in order to really appreciate Florence for the last week. I have to say, I have really enjoyed the time I have spent diving deeper into what the city has to offer. Work ended on Sunday so I have had a lot of free time. On Saturday, I went on a free walking tour and learned a lot about the Medici family, one of the most famous families of Florence. I also learned that I live about 20 steps from the oldest building in Florence. It amazes me every day how much history is surrounding you in this city and sometimes you do not even realize it! During my time alone I have also visited Gusta Pizza, Piazza Strozzi, La Petite, the morning flower market in Piazza della Repubblica, Forte di Belvedere, Ditta Artigianale Oltrarno, Officina Profumo Farmaceutica, and Basilica Santa Maria Novella. All of these places I highly recommend! This upcoming Friday and Saturday I will continue exploring. On Tuesday however, the group visited Principe Corsini, a winery and olive oil making place outside of the walls of Florence. It was amazing and beautiful. We took a tour and had an incredible lunch. That night we also went out for a nice dinner with Nicoletta, in order to say goodbye. This week I also went to the pool outside of the city with some coworkers. It was very different than pools in America. The most noticeable difference was how incredibly clean and sanitary public pools are here. It was really great to hang out with the friends I have made here and to practice my Italian. I will miss Florence and will absolutely need to come back and visit.
