International Difference

It started on Tuesday, May 17th. The first language barrier started with the cab drive. He did not speak English and we could not speak Italian. As we got more into Florence, I realized how many Americans actually visit and live in Florence. Once I started to walk around the city, I thought to myself "I will never get to know my way around." Now, two days later, I'm already recognizing my way around. Now that I know my way around the city, I started exploring more before we have to start work. I met a nice local man and we had a conversation about the difference between Italy and America. A couple differences are the driving age here is 18 where in America it is 16. Another difference is in America, people will get ID more when trying to get into the bars, but in Italy, they never ID anyone. After talking I told the man that there seem to be a lot of Americans and he said that "majority of the citizens in Florence are American and in fact it is hard for Florence citizens to get jobs around the city if they do not speak English". This made the transition easier for me because I can not speak Italian and this will be a better way for me to learn. I'm also helping the Italians I talk with to learn English better. Even though I have only been here for three days, I already love it and can not wait to learn more.
