This week may have been the best week that I’ve had here yet! I have not talked about my responsibilities and my internship at Hotel Tournabuoni Beacci. I am doing much more than I originally expected. I work the front desk with one other agent. I do know some Italian so I am able to help those that speak Italian with simple tasks. I was surprised how many visitors were from the United States and England. Speaking English has allowed me to help with guests in different ways that the other agent has not been as successful. When an English speaker comes to the hotel I personally take care with most of their needs. At the front desk I assist or run through the check-in process, concierge needs (such as restaurant recommendations and scheduling appointments and tours at the different museums), as well as the check out process. I have worked in the back office as well taking hotel reservations, verifying confirmations, and emails to English speaking guests. Overall the hotel is beautiful and all the staff are great. Some do not speak English at all but I have enjoyed speaking with them about the city, their families and sports. I am hoping to get to see a historical version of soccer that is only played in Florence and only three games a year.
This week we were fortunate enough to go to an authentic pizza making class. I enjoy cooking and really enjoyed the class. We learned how to make a pizza from scratch and were then able to make our own.
The group of us are trying to plan a few more trips in this last month and I’m excited to visit new places.
