Not a pity at Pitti
So this week was eventful. It started off with the EURO 2016 football(soccer) game between Italy and Belgium. It was the first game Italy played but that did not stop Italians from going super hard with the viewing parties. We were invited to watch the game with two Italians we met earlier this summer, Fabio and Danio, by the river on a pop-up screen and it was unbelievable. Everyone in attendance was Italian and for being a stereotypically loud culture, they were nearly silent during the game with exceptions when the refs blew a call or when a goal was scored. It was not like a sports bar in America where there was still some side chatter, nearly everyone's eyes were glued to the screen and it was near-silent. The game ended with Italy winning 2-0 and everyone was ecstatic to win the first game of the tournament.
Wednesday was something else. I purchased a pretty similar copy of a Yves Saints Laurent purse(not a fake because I'm not about that) in the leather market and I was so excited. Then I was told to meet Aldo at the Westin Excelsior by the river but he was late(because everything runs on Italian time) so I waited in the lobby. Aldo finally arrived with his granddaughter and we finally set up. The party was for Eton shirts and it was on the rooftop with an amazing view of Florence. The event was fun and I became friends with Amanda, Daniela's daughter. Everyone was dressed amazingly and I felt so ugly and undressed compared to everyone.
Thursday I actually got to go to Pitti Uomo, which is a massive collection of brands for men that come together for a few days in Florence. Apparently, tickets are impossible to get and I went for free because I was serving gelato to a bunch of male models, important fashion buyers, and bloggers. The company we were serving gelato for was David Wellington watches and Giro d'stil bicycles. They had a stage set up with the gelato cart positioned across from it and everyone flocked to it. The models flocked to it and came back for gelato 4 or 5 times. When we were finished with the gelato, we were told we could walk around the exhibition and Amanda and I fully took advantage of this opportunity. Of course, all of the clothes were for men but it was still extremely cool to be at such an exclusive event.
